We welcome Dr. Isaac Amon, Scholar-in-Chief of the Sinai Legal Association for Memory and Modernity (SLAMM), a nonprofit institute dedicated to the study of law, history, and the global Jewish experience.  Dr. Amon will lead us in this informative webinar where you will learn about:

  • Jewish life in the Iberian Peninsula.
  • The ancient origins of Sephardic Jewry through the flourishing of Jewish civilization under Muslim and Christian rule, the so-called "Golden Age".
  • The Spanish Inquisition, forcible conversion, and the expulsion of 1492.
  • How these events collectively created a global Sefarad diaspora that changed the course of history, including that of the future United States - the global consequences of which continue to live on today.

Dr. Isaac Amon is a Lecturer in Law at Washington University School of Law and Executive Director and Scholar-in-Chief of the Sinai Legal Association for Memory and Modernity (SLAMM), a nonprofit institute dedicated to the study of law, history, and the global Jewish experience, with a focus on antisemitism, the Inquisition, and the Holocaust. A lawyer, scholar, and frequent speaker across the United States and abroad, he previously served as a legal fellow at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague and as an ISIS war crimes investigator. He is the proud grandson of Ashkenazi, Sephardi, and Mizrahi Jewish immigrants to the United States in the 20th century.

The Jewish Community Relations Committee is the public relations and advocacy arm of the Jewish Community Federation of Richmond. Founded in 1935, JCFR represents Jewish constituents in the Greater Richmond and Central Virginia region.

I would also like to give to the 2026 Annual Campaign to fund programs supporting the Richmond Jewish community.
